Marrakech destination of plenty of luxurious hotels

Despite tens of thousands of tourists and more in Marrakech, all hotels and riads are struggling to refuel off season.

The ocher city, the capital of southern Morocco, has a real and significant hotel development: seven major hotels will open current 2015, adding to a string of luxury addresses who engage in serious side competition packages, rates and stays benefits to customers.

It seems certain that almost all international channels planning to locate in the imperial city: expected shortly opening a Mandarin Oriental, a Radisson Blu, Ritz Carlton, to an Oberoi (Indian company) whose nights prices exceed 400 euros -up to 1,000 euros and more for private villas as the Es Saadi.

There are two million tourists annually in Marrakech per year spread over a multitude of destinations: small hotels at reasonable prices close to the Jemaa el-Fna the Relais & refined Castles through the madness of the riads, the traditional Moroccan style a dozen rooms arranged around a courtyard, so a guest house, pool villas in the countryside, near the golf courses.

La Palmeraie, outside the walls, is in full swing hotel with chic and expensive resorts and more upscale luxury hotels, luxury and comfort, such as Inès Jardins taken over by the excellent chef Christophe Leroy St Tropez. This is called the abundance, plenty of choice and the constant dilemma of the costs of the stay of one to three depending on the season.

In fact, the hotel frenzy was triggered following the masterful renovation of Mamounia by interior designer Jacques Garcia among others, in the early twenty-first century, to the tune of 200 million euros.

mythical palace nestled in a stunning eight-hectare park, surrounded by ramparts millennia, the Mamounia has embodied the art of living in Marrakech and some idea of the scope glamor, accompanied by the 'happy few' and people like Alain Delon, Mireille Darc, Pierre Bergé, the Guerrand Hermes, Anne Sinclair who renovated riads or air-conditioned villas (50 degrees in summer) as appointed in Home & Garden.

We must realize that the hotel wave followed the opening fanfare of the new Mamounia output of a sweet lethargy. In the first decade of this century, the Club Med was closed, but the Es Saadi, a five-star, next to the Marrakech casino created by Jean Bauchet in 1952, supported by King Mohamed V, enlisted a second Moroccan-style building: the Palace while marble and references to traditional crafts is on the border of a beautiful garden with orange trees, and has a vast pool of memory -beautiful kitchen, vegetarian couscous.

In the process, the Barrière Group, based in Deauville, La Baule and Cannes, among other sites, chose to invest in Marrakech Hotel Naoura, a quadrangle of stone and wood built around an Olympic swimming pool, a spa, a French-Moroccan restaurant, Fouquet's, all of which compete both Sofitel nearby, frequented by French customers clear majority -there 550,000 French tourists and residents.

Then arose, among others, the vast Four Seasons and villas built on sixteen hectares as one traverses mini golf cars, an additional distraction. The second last-born of five star luxury, the Royal Mansour, a fabulous complex of 53 riads standing on three hectares fenced -an initiative of Mohamed VI, eager to stay at best, requires royalty, members of the ruling families of the globe, Emirates, diplomats and for the kingdom of partners. An extravagant investment of 500 million euros to 500 employees and hundreds of residents -The height of Moroccan luxury.

Opened by Jean-Pierre Chaumard, came from the Royal Palm in Mauritius, the Royal Mansour, spa, two restaurants driven by Yannick Alleno, reinventor of traditional couscous, is directed by Jean-Claude Messent, former CEO of Metropole Monaco: this is a real challenge for the new boss, saw the stinging price and hospitality increasingly wide offer in the high end.

At the end of 2013, the Mauritius group Beachcomber, leader in Mauritius, launched the Domaine Royal Palm, a huge resort developed on 230 hectares on the outskirts of Marrakech, three years of pharaonic work to invent a five-star in several islands of dwellings 'high class' spa of 3,000 square meters, four swimming pools, two covered, four clay tennis courts, a fitness center, Kid's club and three restaurants including a vertical Moroccan, all scattered over fifteen hectares. From the eye space and snowy peaks of the Atlas on the horizon, all this recalls the pleasure of living, the welfare of the Royal Palm, hotel star Maurice. Seeking to attract the same kind of customers keen on sun and serenity.

This is the tenth of the prestigious Beachcomber. The first out of the Indian Ocean that combines architecture side, the Mauritian style, high walls, marble building on two floors, and the refinement of Moroccan interiors, pergolas and moucharabiehs, zelliges and studded doors. All requiring almost labyrinthine alleys spreads between bodies of water, flower beds, the state rooms with curtains 25 meters high. A kind of Palace of the Arabian nights contemporary with many strengths, ideal for golfers (30% of customers) and to the followers of idleness marrakchi.

This is the most beautiful Marrakech Beachcomber hotel, out of town, away from the increasing pollution of the city, a specific destination by its location in nature amended, the hundred gardeners, the heavenly site and the panoramic view of 145 rooms and 110 villas of which 58 are sold, first prize 450,000 euros.

Note that the water issue crucial in Marrakech -having the profusion of constructions- not from the Royal Palm groundwater. The Director General, Xavier Jolivet, six years on location, has ensured that water is recycled palace (permanent watering), no drilling and solar collectors are very effective to heat swimming pools at 28 degrees -l eco-responsibility plays for the Mauritian group, avant-garde of this view.

The Royal Palm, a resort model for sports, body care, -soupes Moroccan specialties, tagines, couscous, lamb barbecues and horns gazelle- managed to import the Mauritian spirit of hospitality, attention to towards customers: the hospitality know-how of the Beachcomber group that played in full, it remains to be implemented to knowledge and a strong reputation.

Despite tens of thousands of tourists and more in Marrakech, all hotels and riads are struggling to refuel off-season, they are waging a ruthless squabble with blows off, data nights (two of six), benefits various gifts meals, spa treatments and preferential prices in high season except for the interlude of the end of the year when we refuse the world, like Christmas, 2014.

Are there too many addresses in order to dream stays that do not find buyers? Off season, we find great rates to enjoy the advantages of a fascinating city with countless activities, bathed by a spring climate from March to June when the scorching heat from the desert changing the lives -the nightlife is so privileged.

Obviously the whiff of the crisis seriously affect attendance hostels, there's no doubt. What to do?

Event is needed, festivals, events related to art (Art Fair), to music, etiquette, the ritual of mint tea, gastronomy, we hear in circles marrakchi the great hospitality. There are too hollow month, and this may tarnish the image, the status of the southern capital. Everyone can not invade the city when it's five degrees and less in France.
